Treating Trauma with Compassion, Skill, and Evidence-Based Care
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” – Rumi
Trauma can affect every part of your life—your relationships, your sense of safety, your ability to trust, and how you see yourself in the world. Whether your trauma was recent or occurred years ago, its impact can feel just as fresh today. The good news is: healing is possible. You’re not broken. And you don’t have to navigate this alone.
As a former military therapist, I’ve spent years walking alongside people who have experienced deep, life-altering trauma. I understand how heavy and complex it can be—and I know how to help guide you through it with care and precision.
Understanding Trauma: It Takes Many Forms
Trauma doesn’t always come from one specific event. It can be ongoing, subtle, or deeply layered. Common types of trauma include:
• Acute Trauma – A single overwhelming event (e.g., accidents, assault, natural disaster)
• Chronic Trauma – Repeated, long-term exposure to distress, abuse, or instability
• Complex Trauma – Multiple traumas over time, often tied to early relationships
• Developmental Trauma – Trauma during childhood affecting emotional development
• Combat and Military Trauma – War exposure, moral injury, or military loss
• Secondary/Vicarious Trauma – Impact from witnessing or supporting others through trauma
• Sexual Trauma – Assault, abuse, coercion, or violations of bodily autonomy
• Medical Trauma – Trauma from illness, procedures, or emergency care
How I Treat Trauma
Trauma is deeply individual. There’s no one-size-fits-all path to healing. I draw from several trauma-informed therapies to tailor treatment to your needs and goals.
Schema Therapy
Unresolved trauma often shapes our identity through hidden beliefs—like “I’m not safe,” or “I don’t deserve love.” Schema Therapy helps you identify and heal these core patterns so you can respond to life with confidence, not fear.
Together we will:
• Uncover patterns rooted in early emotional wounds
• Heal negative self-beliefs and internalized shame
• Build a healthier sense of identity and self-worth
• Learn new, emotionally balanced ways of relating to others
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Trauma often distorts thinking—making us feel powerless, unworthy, or stuck. CBT helps you recognize and reshape these patterns to move forward with clarity and strength.
With CBT, you’ll learn to:
• Identify unhelpful thoughts linked to trauma
• Reframe negative self-talk and internal narratives
• Replace avoidance with healthy coping strategies
• Reclaim agency over your life
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT zeroes in on the painful beliefs that often get “stuck” after trauma—like guilt, shame, or a sense that the world is unsafe. We gently untangle these beliefs so you can heal and move forward.
CPT will help you:
• Challenge trauma-related beliefs that keep you stuck
• Make sense of the past in a way that supports healing
• Rebuild trust in yourself, others, and the world
• Move beyond the event and into the present
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
Avoidance is a natural trauma response—but it often keeps you trapped. PE helps you slowly and safely face painful memories, so they no longer hold power over your daily life.
Using PE, we’ll focus on:
• Gradual exposure to trauma triggers in a safe, supportive setting
• Reducing the fear and emotional charge around traumatic memories
• Restoring your sense of safety and control
• Building resilience through direct, empowered healing
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Trauma can get “stuck” in the body and nervous system. EMDR uses gentle, structured techniques to help your brain reprocess traumatic memories—so they no longer feel like they’re happening now.
With EMDR, you can:
• Access and process traumatic memories without reliving them
• Reduce emotional distress linked to specific events
• Improve emotional regulation and inner balance
• Feel more present, safe, and connected
Trauma Is More Common Than You Might Think
You’re not alone in what you’ve experienced. Here are some powerful facts:
• 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced at least one traumatic event
• 1 in 5 veterans experience PTSD
• Up to 90% of individuals in behavioral health treatment report trauma histories
• 1 in 4 women experience sexual trauma in their lifetime
Trauma doesn’t discriminate—and it doesn’t define you. Recovery is possible, and support is available.
